Lately, I’ve been really excited about the idea of eating Paleo. I’ve heard so much about it and I love the idea of anything that cuts down on the amount of processed foods I eat. Its no secret that our bodies don’t respond well to overly-processed, heavily modified foods. The Paleo diet suggests eliminating those kinds of foods and getting back to what our bodies were genetically designed to live off of.
You often hear that eating right isn’t about sticking to a “diet” – it has to be a lifestyle change. Its hard to find the time to count calories or points. That’s what I like the most about eating Paleo. You don’t have to worry about how much you eat, as long as you’re eating the right stuff. Which means you don’t spend half your day feeling hungry. And its easy to figure out what the right stuff is – just think about what humans would have had access to before farming - organic meat, fresh fruits and veggies, and nuts. By cutting out wheat you’re also cutting out gluten, which means the Paleo diet is great for those wanting to go gluten-free.
Good food to eat when you go Paleo are: chicken, salmon, turkey, grass –fed beef, asparagus, avocado, cauliflower (which makes a great substitute for rice or potatoes), broccoli, almonds, cashews, walnut, apples, walnuts, berries. Basically fruits, veggies, nuts, and meat!
Things you’ll want to avoid are: processed snacks (chips, etc), bread, rice, beans, peanuts and peanut butter, oats, and beans.
Eating Paleo also gives us more energy – which is good because you’ll be cutting out soda and other energy drinks! Replace them with water or herbal tea. I like to put fresh fruits in my ice water – so much more delicious than soda! All of this helps our bodies detox in a slow, natural way (no juice fasting required). There are so many delicious Paleo recipes out there full of clever solutions for eliminating grain. So tell me, who else is thinking of trying this?
